IPOH – Transport Minister Anthony Loke’s shortness of breath in the Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday was not related to a heart attack, said the deputy health minister.

Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni said it was instead related to his fitness, Bernama reported.

He said Loke was in a hurry to get to Parliament because of an earlier traffic congestion. Coincidentally, as soon as he arrived, it was his turn to answer questions.

“When he arrived at Parliament in a hurry, he immediately entered the hall and there was shortness of breath while answering oral questions. 

“So, it is not related to a heart attack or (other diseases), it is all about his fitness. 

“If you run, you can sometimes get out of breath,” he said at a press conference after officiating the 13th Asean Congress and the 10th Perak Health Congress here today, according to Bernama.

The Dewan Rakyat witnessed a worrying situation as Loke seemed to be gasping for air when he started speaking before asking for some time to calm down. 

Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Alice Lau then requested Loke’s deputy, Datuk Hasbi Habibollah, to continue the session. 

However, Loke resumed his duties and answered supplementary questions from Wong Chen (Subang-PH). 

Meanwhile, Lukanisman also urged all MPs to undergo a mandatory health check as a preventive measure. – July 12, 2024
