Air Selangor confirms red tags issued to water bill defaulters

QR codes on tags allegedly led customers to phishing sites, but checks show it actually leads to payment page

SHAH ALAM – Air Selangor has confirmed that the red water supply disconnection tags were issued by them, following allegations of a phishing scam.

On Facebook, the company clarified that the labels are fastened on the water metres of customers with outstanding bills to notify them of the supply cut.

“Customers who receive the notice label but do not have any overdue bills should contact us at 15300 or submit an enquiry at the Help Centre available on www.airselangor.com and the Air Selangor application,” read the post.

This comes after a social media user claimed that their water supply was disconnected after he found a red Air Selangor tag on his water meter.

There were also claims that the QR code on the tag would lead users to a phishing site. However, checks by Scoop showed that most of the QR codes posted on social media led to the Air Selangor bill payment page.

Some directed users to a QR code generator page, which could mean the original link has expired. – July 13, 2024
