M. Kulasegaran demands rigorous investigations into preacher's disparaging remarks, urging swift legal action

KUALA LUMPUR – Independent preacher Muhammad Zamri Vinoth Kalimuthu should be thoroughly investigated for making disparaging remarks about religion and assassinating the characters of others, said a DAP lawmaker.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reforms) M. Kulasegaran (Ipoh Barat-PH) told the Dewan Rakyat that police should drag the controversial preacher to court over his comments.

“I support police investigations against him. We know that he has been on social media condemning other religions, causing discomfort to many.

“I hope the police conduct their investigations against Zamri and drag him to court soon,” he said after R.S.N. Rayer (Jelutong-PH) questioned whether action would be taken against the preacher.

As for the cyberbullying of influencer Rajeswary Appahu, who was found dead in her home on July 5, Kulasegaran said there are procedures the police can follow for their investigations.

“For Rajeswary’s case, it’s very unfair. I hope they investigate thoroughly. There are procedures that the police can follow for investigations and take stern action.

“Also take action against Zamri, who does all these character assassinations.”

The deputy minister added that the authorities are currently investigating allegations of cyberbullying against Rajeswary and that police are in the process of handing over the investigation paper to prosecutors.

Earlier, Rayer also brought up Rajeswary’s case, saying that Zamri hosted a TikTok livestream last week to discuss who was at fault for her death.

“The police have arrested several suspects over the matter. But is Zamri invincible?

“Previously, he made incendiary comments about religion. Is Zamri so brave to challenge the police and comment on matters without being caught?”

The Jelutong lawmaker added that Rajeswary’s mother, R. Puspa, lodged a police report naming several individuals for continuing to insult her late daughter on TikTok.

On July 12, a distraught Puspa filed a police report accusing four TikTok users of continuing to insult her late daughter.

According to the police report, she named Zamri and policewoman Sheila Sharon Steven Kumar, also known as Inspector Sheila.

As a result, Sentul police chief Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari said the identities of three individuals have been established and authorities are in the process of getting their statements. – July 15, 2024
