[UPDATED] Rahmah prepaid package for students available via participating telcos at RM30 with minimum 30GB for 180 days

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil says students can subscribe to prepaid package from August 16 onwards through five telecommunications service providers – CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile, TM Tech, YTL Communications (YES)

PUTRAJAYA – The government has announced a Rahmah prepaid package for students in selected public universities and public skills training institutions, said Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

He added that the eligible students only have to register at participating telcos – CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile, TM Tech and YTL Communications (YES).

“They can start subscribing to this Rahmah prepaid package from August 16 onwards through five telecommunications service providers.

“It is offered at a lower rate of no more than RM30 with a minimum initial data of 30GB for 180 days,” he told a press conference during the World PR Day celebration at his ministry here today.

According to a fact sheet by the ministry, eligible students must furnish their identification cards and documents to verify their status, such as their student cards, emails, or a confirmation letter by their institutions.

The effort – through his ministry and with the effort of the telco firms –  was to address rising cost of living, especially to help students during their studies, he added.

Fahmi said further information on the packages will be shared by the respective companies, while the full list of universities and institutions will be included in www.komunikasi.gov.my.

He added that the government did not spend any money on the initiative, which is in line with the Rahmah concept where the private entities themselves offered to lower the charges. – July 16, 2024
