Kit Siang to receive Dato’ Seri Utama title from Penang 

DAP stalwart will be bestowed with state's highest civilian honour, Darjah Utama Pangkuan Negeri, tomorrow

GEORGE TOWN – DAP stalwart Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang will be bestowed with Penang’s highest civilian honour – the Darjah Utama Pangkuan Negeri, with the title “Dato’ Seri Utama”.

The former Iskandar Puteri MP leads the list of 142 people who will receive the honorary titles from Penang governor Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak tomorrow, said a statement released by Penang Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang.

This is the second honorary title Lim has received after the “Tan Sri” title given by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong last year.

An opposition leader for 29 years, Lim served as a parliamentarian for 11 terms in five states – Penang, Melaka, Johor, Perak and Selangor – from 1969 until 2022.

Meanwhile, Choo Kiang, Bank Negara Malaysia governor Datuk Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour, Penang state secretary Datuk Rosli Isa, and Bukit Aman narcotics criminal investigation department director Datuk Khaw Kok Chin will be bestowed with the Darjah Gemilang Pangkuan Negeri, which carries the “Dato’ Seri” title. 

In addition, Penang Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Mohamad Abdul Hamid and state executive councillor Rashidi Zinol, both first-term assemblymen, will be bestowed with the “Datuk” title as well. 

This year, 1,204 people will be honoured with medals and commendations over four days from tomorrow until August 1. – July 26, 2024
