Malaysians complain of unbearable conditions as METMalaysia places areas in Perak, Kedah, Kelantan and Sarawak under Level 1 alert

2:23 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – METMalaysia issued a Level 1 (caution) hot weather alert this morning, affecting several states.

In its latest Facebook update, the department listed the affected areas in Peninsular Malaysia, which include Larut and Matang in Perak, Kuala Muda in Kedah, and Pasir Mas and Kuala Krai in Kelantan.

In Sarawak, Bintulu and Sri Aman have been issued a Level 1 (caution) alert.

Earlier, Larut, Matang and Kuala Krai were also placed under a Level 1 alert. The ongoing hot weather in these areas may pose health risks to the public.

A Level 1 alert is issued when temperature forecasts range from 35 to 37°C for at least three consecutive days.

This is followed by two more serious levels: Level 2 (heat wave), for temperatures ranging from 37 to 40°C for at least three consecutive days, and Level 3 (extreme heat wave), for temperatures of 40°C and above, also for three consecutive days.

Online users responded to the post, agreeing that the weather had been unbearable for the past few days.

Facebook user Adam Irfan commented: “Kuala Muda is very hot right now; the heat is too much.”

Another social media user, Nazah Danisha, said: “Just got back from the clinic. I will be on MC for another two days due to the hot weather.” – July 28, 2024
