News portal investigated over report on major police force reshuffle

KL top cop says a report was lodged on an online portal for revealing transfer plans involving high-ranking officers

8:19 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Police are investigating an online news portal over a report claiming the impending transfers of several high-ranking officers out of the force to agencies under the Home Ministry.

KL police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said this follows one report lodged over the matter, which is now being investigated under Section 505 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

“Kuala Lumpur police confirm receiving one police report over an online portal which revealed transfer plans involving high-ranking Royal Malaysian Police officers.

“The public is urged not to speculate over the matter and action will be taken against any individual who spreads unverified information on social media,” Rusdi said in a statement.

Earlier today, the news portal, citing sources, named Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay and Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain among the senior officers slated to be transferred to other agencies under the Home Ministry.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain dismissed the report, calling it “fake news”

He told Scoop he had instructed the police secretary to summon the reporters responsible for this misinformation.

“This is indeed fake news – there is no truth to these reports.

“(The police force) would like to emphasise that it has not issued any official statement on the matter,” he said.

The news portal had claimed that Ayob is reportedly set to lead another agency under the Home Ministry, while Shuhaily is expected to be appointed as National Anti-Drug Agency director-general. – August 6, 2024
