KUALA LUMPUR – Police are on the hunt for an individual suspected of stabbing two women, including a teacher, at a surau near a religious primary school in Kelana Jaya.

Petaling Jaya police chief Shahrulnizam Ja’afar believes the suspect is a local man, adding that both victims received first aid from a Red Crescent medical team at the scene before being sent to Shah Alam Hospital.

“At about 1.48pm, police received a 999 call from a local resident who reported that two women had been stabbed with a sharp weapon, likely a knife,” he said in a statement.

Shahrulnizam said that one woman suffered injuries to her stomach and head, while the other victim, the teacher, sustained a severe wound on her left arm.

He added that both victims are currently in stable condition.

Shahrulnizam urged anyone with information about the suspect to contact the Petaling Jaya police at 03-7966-2222.

Meanwhile, Selangor religious affairs exco Fahmi Ngah described the incident as a vile and uncivilised act and requested enforcement authorities to nab the individual responsible in the soonest time.

“Places of worship and schools must be made safe for everyone.

“This act of intimidation requires a strong and firm response from the authorities,” Fahmi said. – August 9, 2024
