Na’imah granted temporary passport release again, this time for China

Court grants Tun Daim Zainuddin’s wife’s application as prosecution did not object, she will fly from Aug 29 to Sept 9

2:15 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – The wife of former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin, Toh Puan Na’imah Abdul Khalid, has been granted temporary release of her passport by the sessions court here today to go to China.

Judge Azura Alwi allowed Na’imah’s application after the prosecution, represented by deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Fadhly Mohd Zamry, did not object to it.

“The court allowed the application and the applicant (Na’imah) has to return the passport to the court within 48 hours from September 9,” she said.

Earlier, Na’imah’s lawyer, Nizamuddin Hamid,  told the court that his client needed the passport to travel to China from August 28 to September 9.

Before this, Na’imah had been granted temporary release of her passport to travel to Switzerland, Singapore, London and Venice.

She surrendered her passport to the court as part of her bail condition when she was charged with failing to declare her assets to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

On June 23, Na’imah, 66, was charged in the sessions court here with failing to comply with a notice from the MACC to declare her assets including the Ilham Tower, as well as several other assets around Kuala Lumpur and Penang.

Her husband, Daim, 86, was charged on January 29 with a similar offence involving assets which included a bank account, seven luxury vehicles, 38 companies and 25 properties in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Pahang, Negri Sembilan, Perak, and Kedah.

They are charged under Section 36(2) of the MACC Act 2009, which carries a maximum penalty of imprisonment not exceeding five years and a fine of up to RM100,000, upon conviction. – August 23, 2024
