Muhyiddin’s claim of 115 SDs baseless as some MPs signed multiple documents: Anwar

PM says the then-Agong had to reassess and review the matter

KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has dismissed Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s assertion of securing 115 statutory declarations (SDs) from MPs as baseless.

The Pakatan Harapan chairman highlighted that several MPs were found to have signed more than one SD, while others deferred the decision on who should be prime minister to their party leaders.

Anwar noted that he was not alone in holding this view, citing that former attorney-general Tan Sri Idrus Harun and the rulers themselves were uncertain about who commanded majority support at the time.

“When the circumstances are unclear, Muhyiddin says he has 115, Anwar claims to have 112, some (MPs) have signed similar documents several times. The parties have different opinions on this.

“Thus, the Agong had to reconsider and review to be sure,” Anwar told reporters after lunch at Kg Sg Penchala today.

During a campaign event for the Nenggiri by-election, Muhyiddin had previously claimed that despite gaining 115 of the SDs after the 2022 general election, the Agong at the time did not appoint him as prime minister.

As a result of his remarks, the PN chairman is currently under investigation for allegedly making disparaging comments against the former King.

In response to the investigation, Muhyiddin has maintained that he did not intend to insult the monarchy but was merely stating the facts.

On Wednesday, following police questioning, Muhyiddin submitted several documents to the authorities, including what he claimed were the 115 SDs. – August 23, 2024
