No replacement on Sept 17 for double holiday on Sept 16: Sabah CM

Business as usual for public sector despite Malaysia Day, Maulidur Rasul taking place simultaneously, but private sector may opt to take it

4:50 PM MYT

KOTA KINABALU – Sabah will not declare September 17 as a replacement public holiday for the public sector, despite Malaysia Day and Maulidur Rasul both taking place on September 16, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

However, the private sector can decide if they want to declare September 17 a holiday.

“Malaysia Day, which falls on September 16, also marks Maulidur Rasul, a public holiday.

“However, the state cabinet has decided not to offer a substitute public holiday for September 17 in the public sector,” he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, Hajiji said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg will attend the Malaysia Day celebrations in Kota Kinabalu on September 16.

The event, jointly organised by the Communications Ministry and Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry, will be held at Padang Merdeka here starting at 7pm.

Previously, the federal government, through the Human Resources Ministry, also announced that it would not declare September 17 as a replacement public holiday for the civil service, but the private sector may opt to do so. – September 5, 2024
