KUALA LUMPUR – Six leaders from Bersatu are set to contest for three vice-president positions in the upcoming party elections, which will run from October 12 to 26.

Among the candidates is the party’s outgoing deputy president, Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, also affectionately known as Peja.

He has opted to seek a vice-president role after stepping aside to allow Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, the party’s secretary-general, to assume the position of deputy president.

Hamzah secured the deputy president role unopposed, as confirmed by the official candidate list for the elections.

Also defending their vice-president posts are Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee, MP for Beluran, and Datuk Mohd Radzi Jidin, MP for Putrajaya.

The remaining three candidates include the party’s information chief, Datuk Razali Idris, A’ziss Zainal Abiddin of the Batu Kawan Bersatu division, and Kuang assemblyman Mohd Rafiq Mohd Abdullah of the Sungai Buloh division.

Bersatu president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, had earlier proposed Hamzah, the MP for Larut and the Leader of the Opposition in the Dewan Rakyat, as his deputy. The decision, announced on 13 July, followed consultations with party leaders and was supported by Faizal. – October 4, 2024
