Morning floods in KL cause gridlock, Dewan Rakyat session delayed

Social media users report floods around Dataran Merdeka and roads leading to Parliament

10:36 AM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR — Floods in the capital city have delayed many from reaching work on time, even causing the start of today’s Dewan Rakyat sitting to be postponed.

At the start of the sitting at 10am, Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul announced that today’s session will begin at 10.30am to give MPs more time to reach Parliament.

On social media, X and Facebook users complained that floods had delayed them from reaching their workplaces.

Netizens reported floods from various places in the city, including Jalan Tangsi, outside Wisma Central, and around Dataran Merdeka including Jalan Parliament.

Some social media users in Klang also reported flooding there.

Meanwhile, RapidKL in a statement announced that some LRT services have also been disrupted due to floods in Kuala Lumpur.

LRT trains from Putra Heighs will turn back at Wangsa Maju, and an intermediate or shuttle train will service passengers between Wangsa Maju and Gombak.

Malaysia is currently in a monsoon transition season which the Meteorological Department has warned will bring heavy rains and increased chances of flooding. – October 15, 2024
