School food programme gets RM870 mil

Funds expected to benefit 860,000 students

KUALA LUMPUR – The Supplementary Food Programme (RMT) will receive RM870 million under Budget 2025, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (Tambun-PH) announced today while tabling Budget 2025 in the Dewan Rakyat. 

The prime minister said this allocation would benefit 860,000 students across the country, with business opportunities extended to food suppliers in each district. 

The RM870 million allocation for next year represents an increase of RM86 million compared to the RM784 million allocated in the previous budget.

The allocation is part of the RM5.3 billion funds allocated in the annual budget for the existing 17 types of educational assistance programmes given by the government. 

Additionally, Anwar also announced that RM2 billion has been allocated for food aid for boarding schools.  

Meanwhile, the allocation for the Kumpulan Wang Amanah Pelajar Miskin to be increased to RM180 million next year, which is RM 30 million more than the RM 150 million allocated for this year.  

“(Additionally), close to RM800 million in Early School Aid (BAP) will be provided for nearly 5.2 million students from Standard 1 until Form 5, regardless of their parents’ income,” he added. – October 18, 2024
