Third time’s the charm as Rosman returns to BAM to help women’s doubles

Rexy Mainaky says former shuttler, who has left the national team twice, will help players improve their game and guide them in terms of attitude

1:13 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – The appointment of Rosman Razak to the national coaching setup will elevate the standards of Malaysia’s women’s doubles players and enhance the skills of upcoming coaches at the Akademi Badminton Malaysia (ABM).

ABM coaching director Rexy Mainaky expects Rosman, who will rejoin the national setup for the third time on November 5, to act as a mentor for both players and young coaches advancing through the ranks.

The former badminton player, who has spent over two decades with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) as both a player and coach, first left the national team in 2015 and rejoined a year later. He departed again in 2020 to coach the Philippines national team before returning in 2022 to guide Malaysia’s independent doubles players.

“Rosman is a highly experienced coach, and I am pleased to welcome him back. He has played a pivotal role in developing several top Malaysian women’s doubles players, such as Wong Pei Tty, Chin Eei Hui, Vivian Hoo, and Woon Khe Wei.

“He was the one who paired Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah when Thinaah was still a singles player. Now, we have one of the best women’s doubles pairings.

“Many of our younger players need an experienced coach like Rosman, who I expect will serve as a mentor, not only helping them to improve their game but also guiding their character and attitude.

“The same applies to our coaches. With his experience, he will inspire and help develop younger coaches, such as Chin Kai Feng, who will assist him,” said Rexy.

Meanwhile, Rexy added that once BAM secures a top singles head coach, he anticipates improved performances at next year’s Sudirman Cup.

“We have the SEA Games and the Sudirman Cup next year. In the short term, we are looking to secure a top singles head coach to complete the team.

“If we could previously reach the semi-finals of the Sudirman Cup, hopefully with a new singles head coach, we can aim higher.

“China currently has the most complete squad, but teams like Japan, South Korea, and even Indonesia are in transition and are not as dominant.

“With a complete coaching team, we hope to go further,” Rexy said while declining to comment further on the search for a singles head coach. – October 22, 2024
