2025 SEA Games: MNCF aims for third consecutive gold in men’s mass start

President Datuk Amarjit Singh emphasises strategic planning, financial support as key to overcoming strong competition from Thailand

3:35 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR — The Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) is determined to secure the men’s mass start gold medal for the third consecutive time at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand.

MNCF president Datuk Amarjit Singh stated that the federation has developed an effective strategy to help the national road race squad maintain its winning streak and uphold the pride of Malaysian cycling.

Amarjit, who also serves as vice-president of the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC), emphasised that the MNCF will take all necessary steps to preserve Malaysia’s dominance in this event.

“However, it won’t be an easy task, as Thailand boasts a strong lineup of riders. Additionally, the national squad, led by Yusuf Nasir, will face challenges if they do not receive financial support, including from the Youth and Sports Ministry.

“If the formula used in Hanoi and Siam Reap—leveraging the strength of professional teams, particularly the Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG)—is applied in Thailand, I will work hard to ensure its success,” he said in a statement today.

After a disappointing showing at the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines, the national cycling squad rebounded in the 2021 edition in Hanoi, where Muhammad Nur Aiman Zariff won the gold medal in the event.

Nur Amirull Fakhruddin Mazuki then successfully retained the gold for Malaysia in the last edition in Siem Reap, Cambodia. — October 25, 2024
