‘If it were me, it’d be a goal’: Fandi Ahmad’s sarcastic jab at Sri Pahang’s attackers

Coach laments missed chances in 1-1 draw with Kelantan Darul Naim, citing lack of ‘scoring instinct’ among players despite dominating second half

6:32 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR — Sri Pahang head coach Fandi Ahmad expressed disappointment with his team’s performance, as they failed to capitalise on multiple opportunities, ending in a 1-1 Super League draw against Kelantan Darul Naim at Temerloh Stadium last night.

Sri Pahang fell behind in the 22nd minute to a goal from Oday Ali Abdulrahim Kharoub, but Adam Nor Azlin equalised in the 60th minute.

Fandi said that his team created enough chances to secure a win but lacked sharpness in finishing.

He even hinted, with a touch of sarcasm, that if he had been on the pitch, those missed chances would have found the net.

“We’re disappointed. We should’ve won because we dominated the second half, but we didn’t finish our chances. We couldn’t deliver the passes properly even though we train for situations like these.

“Today, we were just unlucky, and we need to reassess the team. Some players might need to undergo suspensions, but overall, I feel a draw was fair for both sides.

“The players lack a scoring instinct. If it had been me, those chances would’ve been goals.

“It’s frustrating to see, as we train every day, but scoring is hard without that instinct,” said Fandi after the match.

During his prime, Fandi was one of Singapore’s most lethal strikers, even venturing abroad to the Netherlands with FC Groningen, earning his status as a Singaporean football legend.

Sri Pahang currently sits in eighth place with 15 points, while Kelantan Darul Naim is in 12th, two spots from the bottom, with just seven points. — October 26, 2024
