UEFA unveils €1 bil investment to boost women’s football across Europe

ISTANBUL — UEFA confirmed today that it will invest one billion euros (RM 4.76 billion) over the next six years to advance women’s football, Anadolu Agency (AA) reported.

“Unstoppable is our road map to lay the groundwork for a sustainable future, unlocking the full potential of women’s football. As we enter this exciting new era, we must continue with the same passion that has driven us this far,” UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said in a statement.

“Our commitment to this cause is stronger than ever. Our mission is simple – to elevate women’s football within the European sporting community,” he added.

UEFA stated that one billion euros, generated from competition revenue and UEFA investments, will be allocated to advancing women’s football initiatives between 2024 and 2030.

This funding will support grassroots programmes, development projects led by national associations, and the enhancement of women’s football competitions, the statement noted.

The UEFA initiative, titled “Unstoppable,” aims to create pathways for women and girls to participate in football at all levels, whether as players, coaches, or referees, starting at the grassroots. — October 31, 2024
