Rosman Razak hails former independent trainees as ‘true professionals’ 

New national women’s doubles coach express appreciation for Ong Yew Sin, Teo Ee Yi, Goh Soon Huat, Shevon Lai, Tan Kian Meng, Lai Pei Jing for two years of valuable experience

KUALA LUMPUR – Newly appointed national women’s doubles coach Rosman Razak has the utmost respect and admiration for independent doubles players who have succeeded despite extreme challenges. 

Having worked closely with shuttlers such as Ong Yew Sin, Teo Ee Yi, Goh Soon Huat, Shevon Lai, Tan Kian Meng, and Lai Pei Jing over the past two years, Rosman described his former trainees as exemplary professionals of the modern game. 

This mutual respect allowed Rosman to part with them on positive terms when he accepted the offer to rejoin ABM. 

“The past two years with them have been a valuable experience – not only for the players but also for me,” said Rosman. 

“There’s a significant difference between being a national player and going independent. It’s extremely challenging to succeed, yet these players have shown it’s possible. 

“I have no doubt they’ll continue to excel in their careers. From my experience, they’re some of the most professional badminton players of the modern era,” he added. 

Recently, Rosman and fellow independent coach Teo Kok Siang led former ABM men’s doubles duo Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani to victory in both the Super 1000 China Open and the Super 500 Arctic Open. 

Before joining the independent players, Rosman had two stints coaching Malaysia’s national doubles players and also briefly served as head coach for the Philippines national team in 2021. 

Speaking to reporters today, on his first day back at ABM, Rosman revealed that his contract with the national team runs until 2028. 

His main objective is to develop Malaysia’s top women’s doubles pair, Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah, into strong medal contenders for the Los Angeles Olympics while also narrowing the gap between them and the emerging backup pairs. – November 5, 2024
