OCM president praised for his transformative impact on Malaysian badminton during his tenure as BAM president

KUALA LUMPUR — The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) has congratulated its president, Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria, on being named the honorary life president of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).

The announcement was made by BAM acting president, Datuk Subramaniam Veruthasalam, during a press conference yesterday following the BAM council meeting held at Akademi Badminton Malaysia in Bukit Kiara.

OCM deputy president Tan Sri Hamidin Mohd Amin praised Norza’s transformative contributions to Malaysian badminton during his tenure as BAM’s deputy president and later as president, a role he held for over a decade.  

“Under his leadership, he spearheaded the construction of the state-of-the-art Akademi Badminton Malaysia, revitalised BAM’s administration, and improved governance. 

“He also secured multi-million-ringgit sponsorship deals, significantly boosting the association’s financial sustainability,” Hamidin said in a statement today.

Hamidin highlighted Norza’s pivotal role in establishing the Asian High Performance Badminton Centre, a project recognised by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). 

This centre was one of Norza’s key achievements following his election as OCA vice president on September 8.

Norza stepped down as BAM president on August 24 after seven years of dedicated service, leaving behind a legacy of innovation and growth for Malaysian badminton. — November 24, 2024
