KUALA LUMPUR – Is Ahmad Faedzal Ramli’s tenure as the chief executive officer of the National Sports Institute (NSI) coming to an end?

It appears that Ahmad Faedzal’s six-year term as CEO of NSI may be nearing an end after the Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) posted a job advertisement looking for candidates to fill the position.

Applications for the CEO position will close on December 20, with the ministry looking for candidates under 55 years old who possess a bachelor’s degree, a PhD from a government institution, or equivalent qualifications.

Additional criteria for the role include candidates being free from any disciplinary actions by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Speaking to Scoop, Ahmad Faedzal confirmed that he is still the CEO and will continue in the role until his contract officially ends in February next year.

Faedzal also hinted that no discussions have been made regarding his contract.

“I’m aware of the search for new candidates. For now, I can’t guarantee whether I will receive another term in office, as no discussions have taken place. At the same time, I cannot comment further on whether my contract will be extended by the ministry, as it is beyond my jurisdiction.

“… but for now, I am still the CEO until my contract ends in February next year. Until then, I will continue to serve and complete all the duties assigned to me,” said Ahmad Faedzal when contacted.

For the record, the 46-year-old Ahmad Faedzal was appointed CEO of NSI in 2019 under former sports minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman. He replaced Dr. Mohd Khairi Zawi.

However, before taking on the role, Ahmad Faedzal was the secretary-general of the Malaysian Government Servants Welfare and Sports Council.

He has also served as deputy director of the social services division at the Economic Affairs Ministry.

Ahmad Faedzal holds a Master’s degree in sports management from Florida State University and a Level 1 AFC Futsal coaching license. – November 28, 2024
