MNCF signs landmark MoU with Saudi Cycling Federation to boost bilateral cycling development

Their first international partnership with the Saudi Cycling Federation (SACF) focuses on knowledge exchange and collaborative cycling development

7:23 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR — The Malaysia National Cycling Federation (MNCF) continues to take significant strides forward by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Saudi Cycling Federation (SACF).

This marks the first time MNCF has established a partnership with a foreign federation, and the collaboration is expected to benefit both countries by enhancing the quality and standards of cycling in Malaysia and Saudi Arabia.

According to MNCF president Datuk Amarjit Singh Gill, the MoU outlines nine key agendas, including the exchange of experience and knowledge to boost the development of cycling in both nations in the near future.

For instance, Saudi cyclists will have the opportunity to participate in national competitions and events in Malaysia, with potential involvement in prestigious races such as Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL).

In return, Malaysia’s road cycling team could gain entry into the AlUla Tour, an elite race organised by ASO, the same entity behind the Tour de France, which has previously featured top riders like Simon Yates from Team Jayco AlUla.

“The next phase will involve MNCF assisting SACF in improving the quality of their national commissaires, as well as guiding them on organising major events.

“Malaysia is already recognised as one of the most efficient organisers of the Asian Cycling Championships (ACC), consistently hosting without significant issues for participating countries.

“In this regard, I am confident that MNCF has many experts in track, road, BMX, and mountain bike disciplines who can contribute to enhancing cycling in Saudi Arabia.

“At the same time, this MoU will also facilitate coach exchanges, particularly in track cycling. We have several world-class riders and might be able to help Saudi Arabia develop their own top-tier athletes,” said Amarjit.

Amarjit further assured that the MoU would not impose financial obligations on either MNCF or SACF.

“We will ensure that all information exchanged through this MoU remains confidential. What’s most important is that both MNCF and SACF gain significant benefits from this partnership,” he added. — December 6, 2024
