KUALA LUMPUR – The appointment of Peter Cklamovski will indirectly contribute to the development of local footballers and raise the competitive standards of the Malaysia Super League, according to former national goalkeeper Syed Adney Syed Hussein.

The Liverpool-born coach commented after the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) announced Cklamovski’s official appointment as the head coach of the national team.

Speaking to Scoop, Syed Adney explained that more local footballers, who have yet to feature regularly for the Harimau Malaya team, will now compete for their place under Cklamovski by performing well for their respective clubs in the Super League.

“Cklamovski is an excellent choice by FAM, and with his experience working with current Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou, we can expect to see changes in the way our Harimau Malaya team plays.

“Additionally, Cklamovski has a strong background in fitness coaching, which will be a great addition for our players, as they will be better able to meet the physical demands of modern football.

“When a new coach comes in, footballers obviously want to prove themselves, and I am confident that our local players will give 200% for their clubs to get on Cklamovski’s radar.

“His arrival will indirectly accelerate the growth of local footballers and raise the competitive standards of the Super League in the long term.

“Players who work under Cklamovski will certainly return to their clubs and share the knowledge they’ve gained, so it will have a positive impact on our entire football ecosystem,” said Syed Adney when contacted.

Cklamovski began his coaching career as an assistant for the Australian national team (2014 – 2017) before moving to Yokohama F. Marinos (2018–2020).

He later took on head coach roles at Shimizu S-Pulse (2020) and Montedio Yamagata (2021 – 2023), where he managed to lift the team from the relegation zone to playoff contention in the Japanese second division.

Harimau Malaya will kick off their 2027 Asian Cup qualification campaign in March, starting with a match against Nepal, followed by games against Vietnam and Laos in the group stage. – December 17, 2024
