KUALA LUMPUR – The police have rejected the organisation of a solidarity rally for Datuk Seri Najib Razak at the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya this Monday.

Putrajaya police chief Aidi Sham Mohamed said that the police had received an application for the rally on December 31, but it had to be rejected after a review showed that the application was incomplete.

“Upon review, it was found that the application was incomplete, and the police have denied permission for the rally,” he said in a statement today.

He added that the police would also make preparations for security control regarding the rally, with a force of 456 personnel.

On January 6, the Court of Appeal will hear the appeal of former prime minister Najib against the high court’s decision concerning an addendum statement allegedly issued by the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong (YDPA) earlier.

Previously, Umno had decided not to proceed with the rally this Monday to show support for Najib.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said that the party respected the suggestion to honour the prerogative powers of the YDPA to use the legal channels provided by submitting an appeal for Najib.

Umno also, he said, would never disregard the Constitution and would continue to respect all regulations and laws as decreed by the YDPA. – January 4, 2025
