MACC detains six officers involved in heavy vehicle inspection syndicate

Two others remanded for further investigation

KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained eight individuals, including six officers from a vehicle inspection agency, suspected of being involved in a syndicate that approved heavy vehicle inspections at a vehicle inspection centre in the capital.

The suspects, all men aged between 30 and 50, were arrested while providing statements at the MACC Headquarters in Putrajaya yesterday, but were released on MACC bail.

“The detention of all suspects is the result of interrogations conducted by the MACC on an agent previously handed over by the Road Transport Department (JPJ),” said MACC in a statement to the media.

“However, the six vehicle inspection officers have been released on MACC bail after their statements were recorded,” the statement continued.

Meanwhile, two other individuals were remanded for five days until January 11 for further investigation.

The remand order was issued by Magistrate Irza Zulaikha following an application made by the MACC at the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court this morning.

Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations) of MACC, Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya, confirmed the detentions and stated that the case is being investigated under Section 16 (b) (A) of the MACC Act 2009.

He added that, to date, the MACC has detained nine individuals and does not rule out the possibility of further arrests to assist in the investigation.

Earlier, media reports indicated that the MACC had remanded an individual suspected of bribing an enforcement officer with several hundred ringgit in exchange for facilitating the approval of heavy vehicle inspections at a vehicle inspection centre in the capital. – January 7, 2025
