Head of high performance Dr Craig Duncan will leverage his expertise in sports science, medical science, and player development to elevate the national football team to the top of Asia’s fitness rankings

KUALA LUMPUR — Harimau Malaya’s newly appointed head of high performance and sports medicine Dr Craig Duncan has vowed to transform the squad into the fittest team in Asia. 

His appointment marks a key step in the national team’s revolution project, spearheaded by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).  

Drawing on his vast experience in sports medicine and high-performance strategies from various international roles, Duncan is confident that this ambitious goal can be achieved through a comprehensive, world-class framework.

“The head of high performance is responsible for overseeing sports science, medical care, fitness, nutrition, and player psychology,” Duncan explained in a statement on FAM’s official Facebook page. 

“These aspects are very important for maximising each player’s performance and supporting head coach Peter Cklamovski.”  

Duncan also expressed his admiration for the Harimau Malaya revolution project, initiated by the Regent of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim. 

He highlighted the importance of collaboration with his team members—physiotherapists, fitness coaches, and sports science professionals—to drive positive changes within the national team.  

The project also includes the appointment of Robert Friend, a former Canadian international, as the Harimau Malaya squad’s CEO. 

Friend, who retired in December 2014, brings extensive experience in football management and administration to the role, further strengthening the team’s strategic direction. — January 16, 2025
