Fahmi pledges RM10,000 to KL cycling club to promote healthy lifestyle

Lembah Pantai MP also calls for support for clubs and groups that benefit residents

KUALA LUMPUR — Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil has pledged RM10,000 to support cycling initiatives under the Kuala Lumpur City Cycling Club.

The announcement was made during the 50th Federal Territory Anniversary Charity Ride launch, which also honoured former national cyclists for their contributions to the sport.

Speaking at the event, Fahmi, who is also Communications Minister, said it is part of his responsibility as an MP to support sports clubs and associations that benefited city residents to ensure they could continue their impactful work.

“As a Kuala Lumpur MP, I see the need for us to support and assist clubs under Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) because our colleagues in DBKL have done much to help the residents of Kuala Lumpur. Therefore, we as MPs must also contribute and collaborate in these efforts,” he said.

Seven former cyclists from the 1990s were among the recipients of contributions, including Harris Fadzillah Osman, Musairi Musa, Shahrulneza Razali and Khairulfizal Hashim.

The charity ride, scheduled for September, is expected to attract over 400 participants, encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle among city dwellers.

Fahmi also emphasised the importance of regular health checkups, monitoring blood sugar levels, cholesterol, and blood pressure, while promoting a healthier lifestyle through activities like cycling among city residents, including DBKL staff.

Additionally, Fahmi acknowledged DBKL’s efforts in addressing issues such as traffic congestion and abandoned vehicles in public housing areas.

“As an MP and part of the administration, I am here as both a spokesman and a listener. Should there be matters that need to be raised to the Prime Minister or relevant authorities, I am ready to assist,” he added. – January 18, 2025
