Wait for FAM Congress to begin my task as president: Joehari

Datuk Joehari Mohd Ayob acknowledges the trust shown by FAM affiliates as he stands unopposed for the presidency, set to succeed Tan Sri Hamidin Mohd Amin after the February 15 elections

6:59 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR — Datuk Joehari Mohd Ayob sees his unopposed nomination for the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) presidency as a strong endorsement of his leadership by FAM affiliates.

He is poised to succeed Tan Sri Hamidin Mohd Amin for the 2025-2029 term following the February 15 elections.

Joehari, who previously served as FAM vice-president, expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him to lead the national football governing body.

“I want to thank the FAM affiliates for nominating me for the top post. Let’s wait for the 2025 FAM Congress on February 15, where I’ll officially begin my duties alongside the newly elected Executive Committee,” he said in a statement.

Yesterday, FAM Election Committee chairman Prof Datuk Abdullah Mohamad Said confirmed Joehari as the sole candidate for the presidency when nominations closed on January 16.

The nominations also indicated that the two incumbent deputy presidents, Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi and Datuk S. Sivasundaram, are set to retain their positions.

Hamidin, who has led FAM since 2018, announced earlier that he would not seek re-election to allow fresh leadership to advance the association.

The FAM Congress will see elections for 17 positions, including president (one), deputy presidents (two), vice presidents (four), and executive committee members (10), with two seats reserved for women. — January 18, 2025
