Bandar Tun Razak MP urges local entrepreneurs to reap benefits of online access to reach wider market

3:38 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR — National Information Dissemination Centres (NADI) set up by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) are aimed at providing local communities more opportunities to improve their standard of living, Bandar Tun Razak MP Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said today.

Officiating the Desa Tun Razak NADI here, she urged residents in the area to make use of the facilities to generate positive impact.

Wan Azizah, who is the wife of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said residents can use expertise provided at NADI to run their small businesses using e-commerce platforms.

“This will enable them to reach wider markets, including overseas,” she was quoted saying by Bernama at the launch event.

With Wan Azizah at the launch was MCMC Chairman Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din.

MCMC, in a statement, said the Desa Tun Razak NADI, has the potential to evolve into a multi-purpose community centre which not only provides digital access, but also space for social interactions alongside various facilities and training programmes offered.

“The existence of NADI opens up great opportunities for the local community to master the latest communication technology, improve their skills and stimulate economic growth,” the commission said.

The centre, which will aid in creating a more dynamic and competitive ecosystem, is one out of three new NADI centres which have been operating since September 17, 2024.

The total number of NADI centres in Kuala Lumpur currently is 24, in various locations.

At today’s officiating ceremony for Desa Tun Razak NADI, MCMC said various activities were held, including an entrepreneurs’ exhibition session, a briefing on online safety as well as free health screenings.

“NADI’s functionality has now expanded beyond providing access to the internet (as) it also empowers communities through five main cores of the Smart Services initiative introduced in July 2024,” MCMC added.

The five cores – entrepreneurship, lifelong learning, self-wellbeing, awareness and government initiatives – are aimed at ensuring that programmes effectively fulfil communities’ needs to drive progress in society. – January 25, 2025
