KUALA LUMPUR – Singaporean influencer Amyra Laila Ho was fined RM1,000 by the magistrates’ court today after admitting to filing a false police report about an alleged kidnapping attempt at a shopping mall in Taman Abad, Johor Bahru last week. 

In her report, Amyra claimed she was approached by a couple behind the mall on January 10, who were allegedly promoting Chinese tea – to which she declined. She alleged that they forced her to smell it, causing her to feel dizzy and numb, suggesting an attempted abduction. 

She also alleged that the man grabbed her right arm, insisting that he was her husband, which she refuted, while the other woman took her handbag containing RM400.

However, Johor Police Chief Datuk M Kumar confirmed yesterday that investigations, including CCTV footage and technical evidence, revealed no kidnapping attempt had occurred. Investigators found no trace of Amyra at the claimed location during the stated time. 

Magistrate Hidayatul Syuhada Shamsudin handed down the fine on the 45-year-old after she pleaded guilty to providing false information at the Larkin police station on January 22. Failure to pay the fine would result in a three-month jail term. 

Amyra, who was unrepresented in court, paid the fine. The charge was framed under Section 182 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to six months in prison, a fine of RM2,000, or both, upon conviction. – January 28, 2025
