Authorities probe attempted murder as dispute between two groups turns violent

1:32 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Four men have been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run incident involving a group of people in front of a nightclub along Old Klang Road on Wednesday.

Deputy Comm Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob, Kuala Lumpur’s deputy police chief, confirmed the arrests to local media earlier today.

“As of now, four men have been arrested to assist investigations. A remand order will be obtained today (Thursday, Jan 30),” he was quoted as saying.

Azry further explained that the incident followed a prior dispute between the suspects and the victims, who were socialising at the time.

He also revealed that the incident stemmed from an argument between the two groups while they were partying.

Earlier, police launched an investigation into the incident, where a sedan and a pickup truck struck two individuals near an entertainment centre on Old Klang Road on Tuesday. Authorities are treating the case as attempted murder.

Brickfields district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said the police were alerted by witnesses.

“Investigations revealed that a Toyota Hilux and a Toyota Vios rammed into a group of individuals at the scene. The incident left two people injured, with one victim hospitalised for treatment,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

He added that the investigation is still ongoing to uncover the full details.

“As of now, no reports have been filed by the individuals involved. The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder. Those convicted could face a minimum of 10 years in prison, along with a fine.”

Comm Azry also reassured local residents, stating that there was no need for concern, as police were actively pursuing the remaining suspects.

Authorities have urged anyone with information to contact the Kuala Lumpur police hotline at 03-2115 9999, the Brickfields police hotline at 03-2297 9222, or the nearest police station.

A video of the incident, which went viral on Wednesday, showed the two vehicles crashing into the group near the entertainment centre on Jalan Klang Lama. – January 30, 2025
