Teo Nie Ching leads push for flawless connectivity at Thaipusam celebration

2:18 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has taken proactive measures to ensure uninterrupted telecommunication services during the Thaipusam celebrations at Batu Caves, Selangor.

Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said MCMC and major service providers had conducted a comprehensive network assessment at the site since February 5 to prevent connectivity issues during the event.

“With over 1.8 million visitors, including foreign tourists, expected at Batu Caves for this year’s Thaipusam, stable connectivity is crucial.

“This will enable everyone to stay connected, whether to communicate with family, share experiences or access important information throughout the event,” she said in a Facebook post today.

Teo, who attended the Thaipusam celebrations at Batu Caves for the first time, also visited the Mobile Base Transceiver Stations (PBTS) set up by MCMC within the Sri Subramaniar Swamy Temple grounds.

She said MCMC had instructed service providers to take several measures to ensure smooth network services, including:

Monitoring network traffic throughout the event to prevent congestion, increasing network capacity to accommodate the high number of users and deploying seven PBTS units and two Mobile Communication Vehicles (MCVs) at strategic locations around Batu Caves.

“These steps demonstrate the commitment of the Madani government to ensuring the public receives the best possible communication services.”

With these efforts, I am confident that this year’s Thaipusam will not only be a vibrant celebration attended by millions of Hindu devotees and visitors but also one with seamless connectivity,” she said.

Teo also attended the Selangor state-level Thaipusam celebration yesterday, which was officiated by Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. – February 11, 2025
