KDA FC deny Super League withdrawal amid financial woes

Majority shareholder Mohd Daud Bakar dismisses speculation, reveals potential sponsorship tied to club membership growth

8:06 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR — Kedah Darul Aman (KDA) FC majority shareholder Tan Sri Mohd Daud Bakar has denied speculation that the club will withdraw from the Malaysian Super League next season amid financial difficulties.

Speaking at an event announcing BeOne Network as the club’s strategic partner, he dismissed the rumours and reiterated the club’s commitment to competing next season.

Daud also revealed that an international company had offered sponsorship, contingent on the number of registered KDA FC fans.

“An international company placed a key performance index to see that KDA FC had about 15,000 to 20,000 (registered) members. So, if we can achieve that, the company agrees to help us soon,” he said, adding that the club currently has 10,000 registered members, Bernama reported.

He expressed hope that the newly appointed club ambassadors would aid in promoting the club’s products and attracting more members.

Rumours of KDA FC’s possible withdrawal from the Super League have been widespread due to the club’s financial struggles. — February 21, 2025
