KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained four officers linked to former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

A source close to the MACC confirmed the arrests with a local daily, saying the agency had obtained a remand order against the individuals at the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

According to the source, Magistrate Irza Zulaikha issued a five-day remand order starting last Friday for three of the individuals, while the fourth was remanded for three days and released today.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed the matter, stating that the case is being investigated under Section 16(a) of the MACC Act.

“We urge that the MACC be given space to conduct its investigation without any speculation,” he told the daily.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri, 65, who reportedly collapsed early yesterday morning due to high blood pressure, is now in stable condition and fully conscious.

His press secretary, Azran Fitri Rahim, said the former prime minister is receiving treatment at a hospital in Damansara but remains under close medical observation.

“Alhamdulillah, his condition has stabilised, and he is fully conscious this afternoon. However, he still requires close monitoring from doctors at a hospital in Damansara,” he said in a Facebook statement.

Azran also stated that the Bera MP is currently not allowed to receive visitors until his condition improves, with only close family members permitted to see him.

Earlier, Ismail was rushed to the hospital at about 2.30am after collapsing at his home.

Azran, when contacted by Scoop, confirmed that the former prime minister is being treated at Sunway Medical Centre, Kota Damansara, and is in stable condition.

“I was informed that Datuk Seri (Ismail Sabri) collapsed at home and was taken to the hospital around 2.30am for treatment,” he said.

He also urged the public to pray for Ismail Sabri’s health. – February 23, 2024
