KUALA LUMPUR — I. Vikneswaran has retained the presidency of the Kuala Lumpur Hockey Association (KLHA) for the 2024-2025 term after winning unopposed in the committee elections held at Wisma Majlis Olimpik Malaysia today.  

The elections, conducted as part of the association’s annual general meeting, saw former president Datuk Seri Megat D. Shahriman Zaharudin’s nomination for the presidency declared void due to an incomplete nomination form.  

“The decision was made by the chairman (Datuk Michael Wong), not us. We only followed what was conveyed to us,” Vikneswaran told reporters, adding that the association had sent out a notice regarding the cancellation on January 23.  

Meanwhile, Joherman Amir retained his position as deputy president, while Datuk Rosal Azimin Ahmad, Nasrun Mustapha, and Jasbere Singh Poopindar kept their vice-president roles. 

Hebzibah Sudin also retained her position as women’s vice president, with S. Balakrishnan newly appointed as a vice president.  

Vikneswaran said his priority for the new term would be grassroots hockey development across all states.  

“If we want to see the national team at the Olympics, we need to start at the grassroots. We have to ensure we take the right approach,” said Vikneswaran, who has served as KLHA president since 2022. — February 23, 2025
