KUALA LUMPUR – The Prime Minister’s Office has clarified the purpose of its daily briefings, asserting that they do not overlap with the responsibilities of government spokesperson and Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

During this morning’s daily briefing, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) reiterated that these sessions are specifically designed to provide updates on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s activities, responses to pressing national issues, and directives issued to ministries and agencies to ensure the effective implementation of government policies. 

“The PMO daily briefings focus on the prime minister’s daily developments, his explanations on urgent national matters, and his instructions to ministries and agencies to ensure government policies are implemented efficiently,” said the prime minister’s senior press secretary Tunku Nashrul Abaidah during the briefing session.

In contrast, Fahmi Fadzil, as the official spokesperson for the Madani government, is responsible for communicating government policies and cabinet decisions to the public. The department stressed that the briefings serve as a complement to Fahmi’s role rather than a replacement. 

“The role of Fahmi Fadzil as the government spokesperson is to clarify policies and decisions made in cabinet meetings. The PMO Daily Briefing does not replace the government spokesperson but instead strengthens the government’s communication structure,” Tunku Nashrul added.

The clarification follows speculation regarding potential overlaps in government communication channels. The PMO reassured that the introduction of the daily briefings is part of a broader strategy to enhance transparency and counter misinformation. 

Meanwhile, the prime minister announced during a monthly assembly with the Prime Minister’s Department staff that he will be tabling the Parliamentary Services Bill 2025. The proposed legislation aims to strengthen parliamentary independence and reinforce democratic processes under the Madani government. 

Anwar also addressed concerns over the ongoing shortage of local white rice, directing the agriculture and food security ministry to expedite recovery efforts. The ministry has been instructed to provide regular updates to the public on the status of supply restoration.
