Ismail Sabri has MC, MACC to take his statement on Friday

Second round of questioning by anti-graft agency was initially scheduled for today

8:50 AM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR — Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob will give his statement to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Friday instead of today as scheduled.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed the postponement to Bernama.

A source meanwhile told the newswire the postponement is due to health reasons and the Bera MP has a sick leave certificate.

Ismail Sabri, 65, is now expected to have his statement recorded at  at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya at 10am on Friday.

Ismail Sabri had his statement taken by MACC earlier on Feb 19, and prior to that, had submitted his asset declaration information on Feb 10.

He is under investigation as the suspect in a corruption and money laundering probe following the discovery of approximately RM170 million during a raid at a condominium believed to have been used as a ‘safe house.’

The probe focuses on the expenditure and management of funds for promotional and publicity purposes during Ismail Sabri’s tenure as prime minister from 2021 to 2022.

The RM170 million seized was in foreign currencies besides ringgit, including the Thai Baht, Riyal, Pound Sterling, Won, Euro, Swiss Franc, and Yuan. Additionally, 16 kg of pure gold bullion, valued at around RM7 million, was confiscated.

MACC had earlier arrested and remanded four of Ismail Sabri’s former aides.

The case is being investigated under the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.

To date, MACC has recorded statements from 31 individuals and frozen 13 bank accounts with approximately RM2 million, all of which are legitimate and active. – March 5, 2025
