Strangulation confirmed as cause of death for Customs officer found bound in office

Police classify case as sudden death pending further investigation

9:03 PM MYT

PUTRAJAYA — A post-mortem on a Customs Tribunal officer has confirmed that he died from compression of the neck due to ligature strangulation.

The procedure, conducted over three hours, was carried out by a forensic expert from Sultan Idris Shah Hospital in Serdang.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said that despite the findings, the case remains classified as a sudden death report (SDR) based on the post-mortem results from the Forensic and Pathology Department at Putrajaya Hospital.

“The post-mortem confirmed the cause of death as compression of the neck due to ligature strangulation. However, based on the report and the pathology expert’s statement, the investigation remains under SDR,” he said when contacted.

Meanwhile, a Bernama check at the hospital found the victim’s family present to claim the body. They avoided media personnel and declined to comment.

Yesterday, it was reported that the 45-year-old officer was found dead on his office floor with his neck and legs tied with cable ties.

His body was discovered at the Treasury Office of the Finance Ministry, but an initial examination at the scene found no signs of criminal elements. — March 6, 2025
