Ismail Sabri spends five hours at MACC 

The anti-graft agency continues to take his statement and confirm information for its probe into corruption and money laundering allegations against the ninth prime minister

PUTRAJAYA — Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob was questioned for around five hours today by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) as part of investigations into allegations of corruption and money laundering against him.

He left the MACC headquarters at 3.05 pm. Earlier in the morning, he arrived at 9.54am.

Asked by reporters waiting outside the MACC if he had been summoned again for further questioning tomorrow, he only said “Selamat Hari Raya”.

The Bera MP is being investigated over alleged corruption and money laundering involving funds for the promotion and publicity of the Keluarga Malaysia programme during his tenure from August 2021 to November 2022.

RM170 million in various currencies as well as 16kg of gold bars worth RM7 million had been found in a ‘safe house’ and were seized by MACC as part of its investigation.

The agency’s chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki has said new files had been opened based on information from the agency’s intelligence gathering and from Ismail Sabri’s own declaration of assets. 

Azam has also said questioning of the Bera MP would be take several days due to the amount of information and documents the agency wanted him to verify.

The case is being investigated under the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001. – March 24, 2025
