Melaka FC secure 80% of funds needed for Super League return

Club finalising licensing process as they prepare for top-flight football next season

9:00 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR — Melaka FC are on the verge of securing a spot in next season’s Super League, having raised 80% of the RM7 million required to compete in Malaysia’s top-tier football league.

Speaking to Scoop, Melaka FC president Datuk Nur Azmi Ahmad said the club are currently finalising their club licensing documentation for submission to the Malaysia Football League (MFL).

Azmi added that, under the guidance of experienced coach K. Devan, the club are assembling a competitive squad featuring a mix of existing and new players, along with additional foreign signings.

“We’re pleased with the club’s progress and have secured 80% of the funds needed to compete in the Super League.

“Now, we just need to complete the club licensing process with MFL, and once that’s done, our dream will become a reality.

“We’ve also been actively recruiting players, and coach Devan has done a fantastic job scouting the best players for the team.

“Personally, I’m very satisfied with how we performed in the A1 Semi-Pro MBSB Bank Championship (second division) and how we qualified for the Super League on merit.

“Melaka fans are thrilled with our achievement, and we owe it to them to deliver what they want—Super League football,” said Azmi when contacted.

He also assured that the club will soon provide updates on team matters as they work to ensure smooth operations, particularly in avoiding salary-related issues.

Reports indicate that several other clubs, including Sri Pahang FC, Perak FC, Sabah FC, Kelantan Darul Naim FC, and Kedah FC, have been struggling with salary arrears since the start of the current Super League season.

Previously, Azmi told Scoop that Melaka FC require approximately RM7 million to compete and remain financially stable next season.

Melaka secured promotion for next season’s Super League after winning the A1 Semi-Pro League with 71 points, while Immigration FC, the league’s runners-up with 63 points, also earned a spot in the Super League. — March 27, 2025
