Petronas Dagangan clarifies Putra Heights fire not at any of its petrol stations

Nearby stations are closed, however, as a safety precaution, while the affected gas pipeline has been isolated

1:01 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR — Petronas Dagangan Bhd (PDB) has clarified that the fire involving a gas pipeline in Putra Heights this morning did not occur at any Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) station.

“The three nearby Petronas stations (PS)  – PS Putra Heights, PS KM2 LDP and PS Putra Bestari – are not affected but have been temporarily closed as a precautionary measure. Customers may use the following alternatives for their refuelling needs, such as PS USJ 20, PS USJ 6 and PS USJ 9,” it said in a statement today.

Its clarification follows social media videos and news reports which said the fire was at a petrol station in Putra Heights.

However, Petronas Gas Bhd’s (PGB) subsequently confirmed that the fire occurred at its main gas pipeline near Putra Heights, at 8.10 am today. The affected pipeline has been isolated, and all relevant stakeholders have been informed, it added.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) operations assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar earlier said they received an emergency call on the fire at 8.23 am today.

He also confirmed the blaze was caused by a burst gas pipeline, with an estimated length of 500 metres, near a housing area.

Roads around the scene are closed, while nearby residents are being evacuated to the Putra Heights Mosque which has been designated as a temporary relief centre.

As at 11am, Bernama reports that 30 people were receiving treatment for fire-related injuries.

Residents have also reported damage to houses and cars located closer to the blaze. – April 1, 2025
