Nine Malaysians chase World Squash Championship spots at UM qualifier

Home advantage for national squad as regional qualifier brings Asia’s best to Kuala Lumpur

6:08 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s top squash talents will carry the nation’s hopes at the 2025 World Championship Qualifier (WCQ) Asia Region, set to take place at the Universiti Malaya Wall Squash Complex from April 17–20.

In a statement by Ace Sports and Management, the home contingent features six men – Sanjay Jeeva, Addeen Idrakie, Ameeshenraj Chandaran, Bryan Tze Kang Lim, Mohammad Syafiq Kamal, and Darren Pragasam – alongside three women – Yasshmita Jadishkumar, Yu Jie Chen, and Goh Zhi Xuan.

They will compete against 23 of Asia’s finest players for a place at the prestigious PSA World Championships in Chicago, USA, this May.

The Malaysian squad faces formidable opposition, including Pakistan’s Muhammad Asim Khan and Noor Zaman, India’s Veer Chotrani, and Hong Kong’s Matthew Lai and Chi Him Wong in the men’s draw.

The women’s event will see clashes with Hong Kong’s Nga Ching Cheng and Toby Tse, India’s Akanksha Salunkhe and Anahat Singh, and Japan’s Akari Midorikawa.

The qualifier precedes the PSA World Championships (May 9–17), where a US$1.3 million prize pool awaits. A strong showing in Kuala Lumpur could secure Malaysian players a spot at squash’s premier global event.

Ace Sports and Management, endorsed again by the Professional Squash Association (PSA), will host both the WCQ and the subsequent ACE PSA WSF Satellite 1 (April 21–24) at the same venue. The latter offers crucial PSA ranking points for emerging talents.

Fans can witness world-class action at Universiti Malaya, with tickets available via ACE Sports’ official platforms. Discounts apply for students and bulk purchases. — April 4, 2025
