KLIA Ekspres, Transit services back on track after series of cable vandalism: ERL

Company also deploys free shuttle buses to help passengers affected by today’s disruption

4:38 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit services have resumed full operations as of 4pm today after a wave of cable vandalism disrupted the Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL) network over the past 24 hours.

ERL confirmed the restoration of services in a statement, and announced that complimentary shuttle buses have been deployed to assist affected passengers during the recovery period. The shuttle service runs every 20 minutes between Salak Tinggi Station and the Putrajaya & Cyberjaya Station and started at 1pm today.

Earlier, in response to the fourth vandalism incident early this morning, ERL had arranged additional shuttle services starting from 6am between Salak Tinggi Station and KLIA Terminals 1 and 2, as well as between Putrajaya & Cyberjaya Station and KL Sentral. Passengers were advised to plan their journeys accordingly and consider alternative transport options.

In light of these events, ERL has ramped up security measures across its network. This includes deploying additional personnel to hotspot areas, increasing patrols, and enhancing surveillance around critical infrastructure.

The rail operator also said it is working closely with authorities to investigate the incidents and prevent further vandalism.

“We deeply regret the inconvenience caused and are committed to supporting our passengers throughout this period,” ERL said, adding that real-time updates will continue to be provided via its social media channels.

Passengers seeking further information may contact ERL’s Customer Service at customerenquiry@kliaekspres.com.

The string of incidents began at 6.20am yesterday, when cables were found cut at KM48.5 between Salak Tinggi and KLIA Terminal 1. A second incident occurred later that evening at 5.25pm at KM43.1, again disrupting train operations. A third case was reported at 4.47am today at KM47.2, and a fourth was confirmed at 5.20am at KM40.6 between Salak Tinggi and Putrajaya-Cyberjaya stations, which led to further service suspension this morning.

Adding to the disruption, signalling system issues at Bandar Tasik Selatan at 9.57pm last night prompted a temporary suspension of services, with shuttle trains running between Putrajaya-Cyberjaya and KLIA 2 from 10.20pm.

Scoop has reached out to Selangor police for further updates on the ongoing vandalism investigation. – April 9, 2025
