KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia Athletics (MA) will soon announce the appointment of six new coaches after its request was approved by the National Sports Council today.

It is understood that the appointment of the six coaches is to strengthen the national athletics squad’s preparations for several major championships, which include the 2025 Bangkok SEA Games.

In a statement, the NSC said that the list of the six new coaches includes three foreign and three local candidates selected by MA to bolster coaching expertise across all disciplines.

“I met with the MA president, Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, and we agreed to the appointment of the six coaches, which aligns with the planning presented by MA to the NSC,” NSC’s Jefri Ngadirin said.

Previously, MA said that it was looking for head coaches for six athletics disciplines in a mission to strengthen the governing body’s coaching structure.

The association said that the six disciplines involved are sprints/relays; hurdles; middle and long distance; jumps – long jump, triple jump, high jump, pole vault; throws – hammer, discus, javelin, shot put; and race walking. – April 10, 2025
