KUALA LUMPUR — Petronas Gas Berhad (PGB) expects full restoration at its pipeline involved in the Putra Heights fire by July 1.
The company said it continues to work closely with the authorities and regulators in rectifying the pipeline, remedial works and in investigations into the April 1 inferno.
“Contingent upon the outcome of ongoing investigations, regulatory approvals and actual progress at site, the present best estimate for restoration is at the earliest on July 1, 2025,” PGB said in a statement to Bernama, today.
It is also collaborating closely with authorities, gas shippers and gas distributors to resume pipeline services in areas affected by gas supply issues as a result of the fire.
From these collaborations, PGB said gas supply capacity from the North to Northern sector, Bestari Jaya, Meru and Kapar has been increased with additional supply from the Trans Thailand-Malaysia gas pipeline system.
Meanwhile, the Serdang City Gate has resumed operations resulting in more stable supply access to the Klang Valley area.
“PGB will continue to work with regulators as well as relevant authorities to further stabilise the current access to gas supply while safely carrying out remedial efforts and to support the investigations.
“PGB’s priority continues to be the safety and wellbeing of the communities affected whilst ensuring continuous access to gas supply.
“PGB is fully cooperating with relevant authorities including the Department of Safety & Health, Fire and Rescue Department and the Royal Malaysian Police on the incident’s investigations to progress the pipeline’s rectification and remedial works.
“This includes sheet piling for soil stabilisation, water movement management and pipeline excavation,” the company added.
Authorities are currently clearing and stabilising the site of the gas pipeline fire which has been inundated with soil in order to investigate the incident.
The towering inferno damaged hundreds of homes nearby, with over 80 of them written off as total losses. While most households have been allowed to return, those whose homes are irreparable and need to be rebuilt, have been given housing assistance by the Selangor government and Petronas in the interim. – April 16, 2025
