KUALA LUMPUR – Batu division chief candidate Prabakaran Parameswaran has denied claims that he distributed “tokens” to voters ahead of the upcoming PKR internal elections, saying no such instructions were given to his team.
“I have received a circulated video regarding the distribution of tokens to voters who will vote on 19 April 2025 in the Batu Division. I would like to completely deny this act because no specific instruction was issued by me to any team member, either at the Division level or the party wings,” he said in a statement.
Referring to an allegation in the video that he would be handing out tokens at a breaking of fast event, he said, “That did not happen at all and it is not in my team’s schedule.” He added that he is prepared to fully cooperate with the Party Election Committee (JPP) in any investigation.
The first phase of PKR’s division-level elections, which took place from April 11 to 13 across seven states, has been followed by a series of objections and appeals from candidates who claim irregularities in the e-voting process.
Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail, who failed to defend her Shah Alam division chief post against Kota Anggerik assemblyman Najwan Halimi, urged for the remaining elections to be postponed pending investigations.
“As a member of the central committee, I am speaking up and urging that the issue be addressed urgently. I also recommend that the remaining division elections scheduled for this weekend be postponed until these irregularities are investigated and resolved,” she said.
Rodziah said she found it “odd” that she received the fewest votes among her team, despite her long-standing presence in Shah Alam.
“This shouldn’t happen, because the system does not allow voters to proceed to the next screen without first casting a vote for the division chief,” she added.
Yesterday, JPP chair Dr Zaliha Mustafa said all objections will be reviewed in detail with the party’s system developer and auditors.
“All decisions regarding objections will be announced once the division-level voting process concludes,” she said.
PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh said it was common for objections to arise after elections. “Sometimes those who lose can’t accept defeat, so they feel they should have won,” she said.
She added that the party’s blockchain-based e-voting system remains secure, with no breach reported to date. – April 16, 2025
