‘Stay the course’: Tang Jie urges interim partner Wen Tse to keep up momentum

As the national shuttler prepares to reunite with Toh Ee Wei, he encourages Chan Wen Tse to stay sharp and committed during their short-term run

6:42 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR — National mixed doubles shuttler Chen Tang Jie has called on interim partner Chan Wen Tse to maintain her commitment and form — even if their partnership is short-lived.

Although the duo are only teaming up for three tournaments, Tang Jie said it was important for Wen Tse to stay focused as she develops her game.

“I hope she can continue what she’s been doing over the past month,” he said after training at the Akademi Badminton Malaysia in Bukit Kiara today, as reported by Bernama.

“If we don’t keep training, we won’t achieve anything. No matter who her partner is in the future, I’ll support her. I’ll certainly assist.”

The pair are slated to play at the Taiwan Open (May 6–11), Thailand Open II (May 13–18) and Malaysia Masters (May 20–25), before Tang Jie reunites with long-time partner Toh Ee Wei at the Singapore Open from May 27.

The temporary separation is part of an initiative to give the former pair a fresh start after strained ties post-Paris 2024. Tang Jie praised Wen Tse’s professionalism and said she has the potential to become a top player.

He also acknowledged that nerves were natural ahead of their upcoming run of tournaments.

BAM had announced the split between Tang Jie and Ee Wei on March 28 as part of an experimental phase for the mixed doubles camp.

But in a surprise move this week, the national body confirmed the pair would reunite after both players requested to be partnered again.

The decision followed detailed discussions between the coaching team and both players.

Tang Jie and Ee Wei will also represent Malaysia in the 2025 Sudirman Cup in Xiamen, China, from April 27 to May 4. — April 18, 2025
