KUALA LUMPUR — The Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) has expressed its support for national track cycling star Datuk Mohd Azizulhasni Awang, assuring him of assistance should he require it to compete in international championships.
Its president, Datuk Amarjit Singh, said the federation had no issue providing the necessary equipment for Azizulhasni, who recently announced his transition to professional status.
“If Datuk Azizul wants to use a bicycle (provided by the MNCF), that won’t be a problem. He already has his own bikes, but if he prefers to use ours, we have no objection,” he told reporters at the MNCF Hari Raya Open House yesterday.
“We are ready to provide him with the relevant equipment and resources to support his training and participation in upcoming championships.”
Amarjit reaffirmed that the MNCF remains committed to supporting “The Pocket Rocketman” in his pursuit of international competition.
Last Saturday, Azizulhasni revealed his decision to turn professional and continue racing for the next two years under Team Azizul, supported by a RM200,000 individual grant from the National Sports Council (NSC) until 2026.
Among the key performance indicators (KPIs) outlined by the NSC for the 37-year-old are preparations for the 2026 Asian Games and the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Following his announcement, Azizulhasni stated that while he has his own fleet of bicycles, his preferred choice remains the WX-R Vortex — the same model he used at the Paris Olympics last year.
However, he noted that it would ultimately be up to the NSC and MNCF to decide whether he can continue using the bicycle for training and competitions under his new professional status. — April 21, 2025
