KUALA LUMPUR — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has made it clear that no Cabinet reshuffle will take place following the outcome of the 2025 PKR party elections.

Speaking to reporters at a Hari Raya open house hosted by the Higher Education Ministry here today, Anwar, who also serves as PKR president, said the party polls were strictly internal matters with no bearing on federal or state government affairs.

“No, this is a party election. This is a party matter, not a state or federal government issue,” he said.

Anwar also emphasised that Cabinet performance is assessed based on ministers’ commitment, not political manoeuvring.
“I assess performance individually, not based on political calculations,” he added.

He noted that any issues that arose during the party elections can be addressed at the PKR Central Leadership Council (MPP) meeting scheduled for Wednesday.

Joining Anwar at the event was Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir.

In a lighter moment, Anwar deflected a question about senior party figures who lost at the division level by playfully singing a line from the classic P. Ramlee song Tunggu Sekejap, which expresses longing and anticipation.

“Tunggu sekejap, jangan dikenang orang jauh, tunggu sekejap…,” he sang, repeating the line with a smile.

He was later seen at another open house hosted by the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry, where he repeated the same phrase

The latest party polls have sent ripples through PKR, with several high-profile names losing their respective contests at the branch level. Among those defeated were Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim.

These losses have sparked dissatisfaction among some candidates, who have lodged complaints questioning the integrity of the voting process and alleging interference. A video circulating on social media even accused one candidate of vote-buying.

However, PKR election committee chairperson Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa has denied claims of any so-called “invisible hand” influencing the results, maintaining that the party’s electoral process remains clean and credible.

Nik Nazmi had earlier stated on April 19 that he would refer the outcome of the Setiawangsa division chief race to the party’s Central Election Committee (JPP). – April 21, 2025
