Rocky’s Bru: I’m still standing – Rocky Bru

Blogging remains relevant as FeedSpot places Rocky’s Bru second on its top 10 political sites in Malaysia for 2025

11:49 AM MYT

ROCKY’S Bru, which I started in 2006, is second in the latest ranking on Malaysia’s political blogs and websites by the US-based FeedSpot, a content reader that helps you track multiple websites without having to visit each and every one for their latest.

No cash prizes or trophies, but I thanked Anuj Agarwal, FeedSpot’s founder.

It’s still an honour, no matter how many times this blog has been cited. But to be honest, I was more surprised. I asked him: do people still read blogs?

Lim Kit Siang’s blog has been ranked number one by FeedSpot. Behind me are some big entities selected from thousands of blogs on the web and ranked, according to FeedSpot, “by relevancy, authority, social media followers and freshness”.

Here’s FeedSpot’s Top 10 Blogs and Websites in Malaysia for 2025.:

1. Lim Kit Siang

2. Rocky’s Bru

3. Cilisos

4. The Malaysian Insight

5. Briget Welsh

6. Liew Chin Tong

7. Sinar Daily

8. Bernama

9. New Straits Times

10. Astro Awani

FeedSpot has the Top 100 list of Malaysia’s must-read blogs. You can request the list from them.

Now back to the question: so people still read blogs?

According to Reddit, “normal people actually do still read blogs”. Its readers commented on a particular thread as to why people should blog:

“Take the power out of the hands of social media giants who don’t have our best interests in mind. Have full control of your content. Start a blog.”

“Maybe you won’t get a huge audience, but the constraints of what feels “appropriate” to post on FB/Twitter/etc. falls away when you’re on your own site.”

I asked Google if blogs are still relevant.

Yes, blogs are still relevant in 2025. They remain a valuable platform for sharing ideas, building a personal brand, driving website traffic, and establishing expertise.

To be effective, focus on creating high-quality, relevant content, optimising for SEO, and engaging with your audience on social media.

Here’s why blogging is still important:

SEO Benefits:
Search engines love blogs, and well-written, SEO-optimised blog posts can rank higher in search results, driving organic traffic.

Content Variety:
Blogs allow for long-form content, which can be more in-depth and authoritative than shorter social media posts.

Building Authority:
Blogging helps establish you as an expert in your field and can help build your personal brand.

Long-Term Value:
Blog content has staying power, unlike fleeting social media posts, and can be accessed for years to come.

Measurable Results:
You can track how well your blog is performing and see the impact it has on your website traffic, email sign-ups, and conversions.

While blogging has evolved and may look different than it did in the past, it remains a valuable tool for online content creation and engagement.

My wife and I would rely on blogs when making preparations for our regular travels abroad, which often take us to paths less-travelled. These travel blogs, especially by individual travellers like ourselves, are way more trustworthy and informative than your glossy travel brochures and official tourism websites. – April 23, 2025
